The Hall

Never sold, always lived in.

Burton Agnes Hall is a house of immense charm and character. It has many unusual features and is fortunate in suffering so little from alterations or additions in its history. The family stress that it is a 'lived-in' home and this welcome quality is perhaps its most appealing asset. Since the Norman Manor House was built by Roger de Stuteville in 1173 the property has never changed hands by sale, though it has at times passed from family to family.

The Gardens

Get lost.

The beautiful, award winning gardens of Burton Agnes Hall offer something for everyone. The walled garden contains many thousands of plant species, herbaceous borders, a jungle garden and collection of campanulas, a yew maze and giant games, while the woodland is planted in a peaceful arboretum walk, and has a fabulous adventure playground.

Shopping & Eating

Wood-fired, home-baked.

In the Carriage House Cafe you can enjoy freshly prepared food, including delicious wood-fired meals using produce grown in the walled garden. We make superb coffees with coffee beans that are blended and roasted for us locally, teas, special hot chocolates and home-baked treats. There are tables indoors to eat and drink, and benches and tables with chairs outside. You are most welcome to enjoy a picnic in the grounds here.

The Carriage House Cafe and Shop are open daily at all times that the garden is open.
