Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens is a great day out for all the family. Whether you're interested in the Hall, with its magnificent architecture and impressive collection of art, the beautiful award winning gardens, or the woodland sculpture walk and giant games, you'll find something for everyone.
Approached by a shady path lined with the dwellings of enchanted woodland folk, the natural wooden playground sits in a grassy glade behind the Elizabethan family home and has been designed to complement its ancient woodland setting. The young at heart will love the double zip wire, tower with twisting tubular slide, nine basket and tyre swings, five-person seesaw, spinning roundabout, and much more. There's also a gentler toddler play area and an accessible loo with baby changing facilities.

There's a fabulous woodland adventure playground in which to let off steam, with a mysterious 'wise old man' tower with corkscrew slide, double zip wire and nine swings amongst other kit.

Visitors to the garden, young and old enjoy getting lost in the maze and to make ours more interesting we have included a riddle for visitors to solve. There are a number of small gardens on the way into the centre which provide the clues and the riddle is a well known saying.
The only caution to be noted when ordering yew bushes, as we found to our own amusement, is that 'yew' is not to be confused with 'ewe'. On the morning that our yew bushes were due to be delivered the nursery who supplied the plants rang the office to say that they would be delivering them that afternoon. The message was passed on to the farm men who we later discovered were actually waiting to unload 700 ewes and thought we had suddenly decided to go in for sheep farming in a big way!
To the north of the house is the woodland walk, about a mile long. This was planted to form an arboretum walk, along with a new wood adjoining in 1998, with gifts of trees following a party to commemorate the Hall's 400th centenary and Simon Cunliffe-Lister's 21st birthday. Approximate strolling time - 20 minutes.
Burton Agnes guide books are available from the visitor desk, and our friendly guides are on hand to answer questions about the history and contents of the Hall. Toddler 'hip seats' are available in the Hall to help you carry young children, and under 4's have free entry.
Baby change facilities can be found in the disabled toilet, which is in the passageway in the top left-hand corner of the Courtyard.

School groups are very welcome at Burton Agnes Hall and there is plenty for children to see and do. We offer guided tours tailored to school groups, and the gardens enable a range of activities; the woodland walk holds fascination for children, with trees, plants and wildlife to spot; the walled garden has fruit, vegetables and exotic plants as well as giant board games and a maze!
A special concessionary rate is made for Primary and Junior school groups to the Hall and Grounds of £2.50 per person (adults and children). Guided tours of the Hall for groups are available at no extra cost. These take approximately 1 hour for school groups. Upon request, tours of the Kitchen Garden can be arranged with the Head Gardener. These last approximately 20 minutes. Ice creams can be purchased for school groups for £1.50 per person.
